I was working on replacing a poorly installed switch box which faced into the garage, when I discovered mouse
1
Hungry mice. Suprisingly, in all of the damaged wiring, they never bit into the black (HOT) wire. Lucky for them!
2
More damage. Again, the black wire was left intact.
3
Stupid mice.
4
Inside the wall, above the opening I made for access. The mice were using the cavity as a pathway to climb up into the attic above the garage. Barely visible in this picture is the opening in the wall through which wires passed into the garage attic. (And through which the mice were travelling)
5
New junction box installed above the undamaged top plate, new wiring back-pulled into it.
6
The hole in the sheathing just above the truss is where the mice were coming out. The hole is just below the top plate of the wall (which fortunately the mice didn't get through.
7
The inside switch box prior to wire repair, note the mouse
8
All of the damaged wires removed from the inside switch box.
